ORPHIC ENDEAVORS

Last night we watched our new DVD of the movie " Pitch Black". We bought it in a two pack with " The Chronicles of Riddick" which we watched last week. It was very good and some of the things I had forgotten from seeing it years ago were still very good and shocking. I really enjoyed it. After the movie that awful show "American Idol" was coming on (my husband and children are fans of the show, I am not) so I did my usual listening to Depeche Mode really loud in the headphones for the duration of the show so I don't have to hear it. While listening to one of Depeche Mode's remix versions of " Only When I lose Myself" (the "Gus Gus Longplay Mix") and thinking about "Pitch Black" I realized I could do a similar beat but much slower and in my own style. So, I made the beat first, listened to that a while then thought about the movie some more and made the tune. In most of my music there are sounds from our everyday life blended in. Though mostly synths, this tune also features two sounds. One is a heavily altered tapping on the tv screen and the other is a very small sample of crickets chirping in a graveyard with lots of reverb and echo to make a tapping sound. The crickets are one half of the beat. Anyway, as my tunes go this one is very repetitive and simple. It's a little loud at times... Turned down a bit it sounds nice. Turned up too loud it's a bit rumbly and feedbacky.... It was meant to be turned kind of low. Makes it edgier or something. Anyway, I hope you like it. I'm going to put this one up at CNet, but I have to remove "Lockdown (Mix 5)" first. It's my lowest rated tune. (There were four votes. Two out of five stars.)
