Recently I've been posting Orphic Endeavors' music everywhere I can
think of. The demise of first Mp3.com over a year ago, and now Besonic
(and apparently IUMA as well), and Amazon.com kicking off everyone not
willing to pay to give away their music for free, has
forced me to look around for other places to bring traffic to the
Orphic Endeavors' site. So, I put music up wherever I can for free
with links back to here in the hopes that folks will download more of
the tunes. In the process I'm having to write and rewrite over and
over the history of Orphic Endeavors. So, I decided maybe I should
have a little more detailed history here for people to read if they're
interested.
I began Orphic Endeavors in late 2000. What I wanted was cool spooky
music to listen to while I wrote the story
"Fortress" which, at the time, was so much scarier than the kind
of tame version I have up on the site now. I was in pursuit of creepy,
eerie sounds that would help me to stay focused and in the mood to
write the story. At the time I found very little. The truth is I
really didn't know where to look. I hadn't been using the internet
very much yet at the time and hadn't discovered all of the independent
musicians that I now know are everywhere. Meanwhile, my husband had
bought a program to use to create some fun techno music (he is a
guitarist and keyboardist and has been in several bands over the
years) and I decided to try it out and take a crack at creating the
music I wanted to listen to while writing "Fortress". So, Orphic
Endeavors was born. Only a few months later did I upload my first tune
to Mp3.com and from there other places all over the internet. What
started as a simple rearranging of prepackaged loops and sound samples
has become a monster of composing and creating synth sounds and
recording my own samples of everyday life. I no longer use any bought
loops. All the sounds you hear are created by me for Orphic Endeavors.
I've used everything from my husband's guitar to a metal lamp I bought
at a thrift store. Sounds you hear in the tunes come from boat rides,
rain storms, waiting at my kids' schools in the parking lot, plastic
bottles, wind chimes hanging both in the house and on the front porch,
etc. I carry my tape recorder (and my camera) everywhere.
So far I have created four "albums" for Orphic Endeavors, the first
three being MP3.com albums and the last one was at Cafepress. (There
is currently a new one in progess, "The Midnight Girl".) I've sold
exactly one to a guy in Germany about three years ago. I guess
it's because I usually give away my music for free, so why would
anyone take the time to order one? But I continue to put these things
out because I've always had hopes someone would buy a t-shirt or
something to help promote Orphic E. (A link is good too.) For now
though, I am happy to give the music away. I'm happy people seem to
enjoy it and I hope something big will come out if it all someday. In
the meantime I'm still cranking it up everytime I settle down to write
something spooky. Try listening to some of it while reading
"The Rabbit Hole". See? Yeah... That's the feeling. :D
Thanks for downloading and listening and leaving me feedback.

By the way, if you want to link back to Orphic Endeavors' page, please
do! I would be thrilled! Also, if you like banners I have two banners
I created, one static and one flash.
