But it's done! Yay! I started to work on redoing this page
yesterday, and here's why... I am a big fan of the band Amethystium, and
I was listening to them to other day and got to wondering who they were
and what makes the music so great, so I did a little searching online. I
stumbled first on this website: http://amethystium.com/,
which although stunning and well designed, it's unfinished, and I wanted
to know about the origins of the band, so I searched more. Finally, I
found an old interview and discovered Amethystium is just one guy...
Øystein Ramfjord, who began his music project in 1998, just two years
before me. And he started in the same place I did, MP3.com. Wow. What a
surprise. Now, Øystein Ramfjord's list of music equipment is the list
musicians like me dream of, full of top notch software, servers, various
musical instruments and a series of very nice synths, so I can't really
come close to competing with that, but he said something in that
interview which made me think again about the design of this site.
He
said,
If I should give one general advice to a new artist on the web, it would
be to focus on details and do everything with the design at the web page
etc. as professional as possible. The first impression and the visual
part of a web site is without doubt shaping what people think about the
music they will be hearing.
And since I can only do just so much with my limited musical equipment, I
decided to again focus on this page, because, just as he said, this is
where people come to contact me and to find out more no matter how they
found the music in the first place. I hope that this design goes further
in presenting a more professional image. I'll listen to any advice from
anyone visiting this page as well. I can't afford to pay someone to build
one, I have to do the work myself, but I am a very fast learner and can
figure out a lot of code, with time.
Also, in other news, I ordered
Finale's SongWriter software yesterday. It's supposed to be here on the
18th, so I've already started working on more music in anticipation.
Between all of these programs I should be able to come up with some good
work. I hope so, anyway.
Also, I just joined a place called
"Last.FM".
Here's a link: http://www.last.fm/music/Orphic+Endeavors.
I didn't know this place even existed, but I stumbled on it by accident
and discovered a list of my music was already there! And a fan list too!
Wow! That's so cool! So I joined up. Check it out. If you click on the
picture of the Midnight Girl you can see tracks listed. Of course, they're
the same tracks available here, but still, it's another doorway for folks
to find Orphic Endeavors.
Well, I guess that's about it. I'm going to begin
working on fixing "Thunder
and Sparrow" as soon as the Finale software gets here. There's a
good flute sound in there!
Anyway, thanks so much for downloading
and listening!

(By the way, that quote by Øystein
Ramfjord of Amethystium is from this Google cached article: Artists
sharing their best promo tips! in case you'd like to read it!)
(PS!!! This site does validate with W3C... Unfortunately, Google's "cache generated" link above causes 12 errors!!!! As soon as that page moves to the archives this front page will validate again. The rest of the site does.)
